Wreck Walk: A 2.5km return walk which takes a leisurely one hour on an easy gradient and takes in the site of the wreck of the SS Merimbula which ran aground at 1.00am on 27th March, 1928. Coomies Walk: This includes the Wreck Walk and is a 9km, hillier walk and takes about 3 hours. A feature of this walk is the panoramic view from the Trig Station. Map to get to Abrahams Bosom Reserve The Grotto - North NowraOn the banks of the Shoalhaven River in North Nowra (access from Yurunga Drive) is The Grotto. Whilst access to The Grotto is steep in parts, the walk is short, a 3km loop track which takes between 1 to 2 hrs. There are 4 lookouts at the top of the cliffs. Easy grade with one short steeped assent.
A large overhanging rock called the Grotto has given its name to this walk. This is a beautiful walk with steep entrances that zigzag down 45 metres from the cliff-tops to the banks of the Shoalhaven River. The walk passes through an old farm and orchard which belonged John Hanson in the 1920's. Map to get to The Grotto Bangalee Reserve, North Nowra5km easy to moderate grade through woodland, forest, rainforest and river flats along the Shoalhaven River. Another great set of linked short tracks that is not well sign-posted but well worth the effort of finding. Head north from the Nowra Bridge and turn left at the traffic lights and head west along Illaroo Rd. for approx 8km. Turn left onto Koloona Drive (watch for the small sign off Illaroo Rd.). Follow this for 3.5 km the last kilometre or so is gravel. Watch for the entrance to the reserve car park on the left.
A map of the walks here are available from The Shoalhaven Information Centre in Nowra and is recommended. |

Approx. 5km return, easy grade. From the car park at Crookhaven Heads descend to the rocky shore and follow the trail to the left that follows the river west under the headland. Continue along the river shore past the crookhaven boat ramp, along a crescent-shaped beach, then grassy foreshore past small exposed reefs and onto some mangrove forest that overlooks oyster leases and the harbour at Greenwell Point is on the other side of the river. Return to your car the same way until you reach the crescent-shaped beach. Here look for a track that leads up into the woodland, then follow the road back to the car park veering off to skirt the woodland side of the playing field along the way.
